General meetings are held at the Clark County Public Works, Building B-1, 4700 NE 78th St, Vancouver, WA 98665.
WinLink has been used in a recent major exercise and demonstrated its usefulness. It is faster (for longer messages, with bigger words, especially technical jargon), and more accurate than voice messages. And it is NOT that difficult to learn. If you feel confident reading and writing email then you can learn to use WinLink. You will get all of the help and training than you need.
Digital training starts in earnest at the January 15 CCARES meeting. This will be a mostly hands on session where you will be introduced to WinLink basic use. No is radio required for the training or for regular use at home. You can do this using a wifi internet connection. Before you come to the meeting (and even if you don’t) here is a homework assignment for you...
ASSIGNMENT: Due January 15
Review the attached PowerPoint presentation explaining how to access the WinLink site and obtain the WinLink program.
Download the WinLink program onto your laptop and install it.
NOTE: You’ll know you have been successful when you see a purple and gray checker board icon on your desktop.
That's as far as you need to go until the meeting. There you will be guided through the set-up of a WinLink account and how to send and receive emails using WinLink and a direct wifi connection using telnet. Bring your laptop (with charged battery or AC power connector) to the January meeting. If you have questions or need help with this please contact Rus W7RAW or Tim AF7TM.
